Why Entrepreneurial Muslims Should MEMORISE THE QUR’AN

Aug 27, 2018

"It will be said to the companion of the Qur'an after he has entered Paradise, 'Recite and rise!' For every verse he recites, he will rise one level (in Paradise), until he recites the last verse with him (in his memory)." (Abu Dawood)

In the above hadith, Allah promises a great reward and honour for those who memorise the Qur’an and act upon it. Indeed, memorising the Qur’an is an act of worship that has many benefits in this world and the next.

Here are a couple of ways on how spending time and effort to memorise the Qur’an can help Entrepreneurial Muslims to achieve success in their lives and businesses;

=== IT’S A SOURCE OF BLESSINGS & HAPPINESS===

The Qur’an is a source of blessings - great blessings that we can reap if we were to include the recitation of it in our daily lives. Allah (swt) says,

“(This is) a Book (the Qur’an) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings,” [al-Qur’an 39:28]

Life can be very stressful at times, especially for us entrepreneurs. Whenever we return to the Qur’an and recite it with understanding, we will almost instantly feel at peace and optimistic about what lies ahead of us.

===IT TEACHES YOU SELF-DISCIPLINE===

If we don’t review the Qur’an regularly, it will escape our memory faster than a camel that has forgotten to be tied down. Memorisers of the Qur’an have to consistently review what they have memorised everyday, without fail.

This self-discipline can be applied to all aspects of life, including entrepreneurship. To “show up” everyday and have routines that we diligently follow is a must if we wish to stay organised and be successful in business.

===IT’S A REASON TO WAKE UP EARLY===

Memorising the Qur’an is best in the early hours, everyone knows that. But the cool thing is, once you’re awake and focused after a refreshing session of memorisation, the day’s work gets the best kickstart possible.

==IT CONNECTS YOU TO THE BIGGER GOAL==

Some of the best life coaches recommend writing your goals 5 times a day while others say to create vision boards to keep you motivated. An additional powerful method we have as Muslims is to simply read the Qur’an and contemplate over the bliss of Jannah. What a beautiful goal!

===IT TRAINS YOU TO BE PATIENT===

Imagine, sitting in the same spot repeating the same ayaat continuously over and over again, only to come back the next day and repeat it again. Sounds tedious right? But the lessons of patience this gives you is so great. It literally molds you into calmer and more patient person.

===IT RELIEVES STRESS & IMPROVES FOCUS===

Memorising the Qur’an is similar to meditation as it frees your mind of work. That means, when you do return to work, you are refreshed and able to focus better.

Furthermore, when you’re constantly training and strengthening your memory, you become smarter. Imagine being able to read books and retain everything you read. Pretty cool, right?

===IT’S EXTREMELY HUMBLING===

The more you memorise the Qur’an and advance into your journey of seeking knowledge, the more you will realise how vast the sea of knowledge actually is. Dwelling on this subject will always leave you feeling truly humbled.

Just as entrepreneurs, no matter how rich we are, we should never be proud and look down upon others. We were once in that position and we can easily be returned to that position if Allah wills.

These were a couple of ways on how memorising the Qur’an can benefit our lives and our businesses. I ask Allah, the Most High, to make it easy for us to memorise the Qur’an and to give us success in everything that we do.
